Update by Kim

Well this girl had us laughing this morning. Yesterday was tough with a lot going on for her and she was pretty exhausted. This morning she was much more energetic and had us stumped trying to figure out what she was saying. At one point, her nurse told us she asked about her phone. We let her know that it was fine and we are switching it to an Iphone so when she is able to use it on her own we can still easily FaceTime her. I let her know that all of her belongings that were in the car (she was headed home from college) seemed to be back with us, and in good condition (another miracle); including her candy stash- which we have NOT been eating! She responded by mouthing "OH, BLESS!!!"  After that conversation, we likely had the worst version of the game "bad lip reading" you've ever seen. Happily, she is quite able to completely communicate to us her trademark eye-roll, which punctuated almost every one of our guesses. If anyone knows where I can take a crash course in lip reading, I'll sign up!

Her lungs aren't doing as well today, so they had to do a bronchoscopy and suction out some of the gunk in her lung. It was blocking the main airway. The procedure went well and they expect to see some improvement with her breathing.

It's the weekend (for those of us able to keep track of days lately) and they don't do as much with her since the regular doctors are not there. We are happy she will get a break today and hopefully tomorrow to just rest.

Her Cardiothoracic surgeon ( I didn't know what that was until I looked it up) has been amazing and he keeps us up to date on her condition and progress every day. I can't say enough good things about all the teams of doctors that have had a hand in Shannon's care at Thomas Jefferson Hospital. A++

We were invited by our church leaders to join the members of our church worldwide and also other faiths in a fast and prayer tomorrow for the relief from physical, emotional, and economic effects of the global pandemic. We plan to do just that, and to also fast and pray for Shannon's healing- both emotional and physical. If you'd like to join us, the entire world could use more prayer. We know that we are not the only ones who are struggling at this time, and definitely not the only ones who need blessings.

Shannon still needs prayers for her lungs to overcome the infection in them, for continued peace and comfort while she is isolated from her family and friends, and for her spinal injuries to heal.

She's been so upbeat today even though we couldn't understand her, I can't help but share this quote:

Lightening McQueen: Turn right to go left! Guess what? I tried it, and you know what? This crazy thing happened- I went right!
Lizzie: You keep talkin' to yourself, people 'll think you're crazy.
Lightening McQueen: [sarcastically] Thanks for the tip!
Lizzie: Uh- what? I wasn't talkin' to you!

  1. We admire your courage and strength, as well as that of Shannon. We are all praying and hoping for miracles for Shannon, as well as for your family, and all the health professionals that are caring for her. I have faith in your hope. I have faith that the Lord know every breathe and moments of fear and anxiety that Shannon is experiencing. We are joining with your family and the world tomorrow in fasting and prayer. We love you dearly, and treasure that we got to see you last month.
