Silver Linings

We are putting together a continuous list of blessings that are shining forth during Shannon's journey toward recovery. We hope this helps everyone touched by this event to see that God is in the details & to remind us of the beauty in humanity.

  • At the accident scene a nurse was driving behind them and got to Shannon right after the accident.
  • There was a trauma doctor on call at the local hospital that isn’t usually there. He saw Shannon and immediately knew what she needed done so she could be stabilized for air transfer to the trauma hospital.
  • The other passengers in the car had little to no injuries.
  • No other cars were involved in the accident.
  • Lancer & Kim were able to get on a flight four hours after hearing about the accident.
  • Lancer's coworkers Patti, Rob, Omar, Bryant, Kris took over for him when we left to get to Shannon.
  • The air ambulance medics took on the personal role of helping get Shannon back home- pushing against the doctors when they were trying to make her condition sound less stable than it was.
  • The air ambulance caught a tailwind that got everyone to Philly in two hours.
  • The pilots had combined 80 years of emergency flight experience.
  • Lancer lost his job in Maryland 8 years ago and was hired at Rothman Institute where Alex Vacarro, one of the best spine doctor in the nation works.
  • Shannon had emergency care pushed through much faster during the current restrictions put in place because of Coronavirus.
  • The hospital nursing managers allowed Shannon’s parents a major exception to the current ‘zero visitor’ rule and allowed a two hour visit.
  • Shannon's family has the technology and her nurses have the willingness to use it so that her family can stay connected to her.
  • Friends and family have jumped in and provided everything needed for love and support at this time.

  • Literally thousands of people are praying for Shannon
  • Lancer’s bosses Mike and Sean have been extremely accommodating and supportive of Lancer attending to his family, even though all this happened as his company was transitioning to working from home- something Lancer was greatly involved in implementing.
  • Lancer’s co-workers Gina & Dave jumped in and got the Air Ambulance pre-approved by the insurance company hours before the flight departed so we don’t have to fight to get it covered afterward.
  • Shannon’s spine surgeon Dr. Vacarro calls early every morning to let us know how she’s  doing- which is above & beyond what he’s expected to do.

  • With all of the businesses shutting down and cutting back hours, Lancer's company has refused to let anyone go. Instead, everyone is taking pay cuts to ensure everyone still has a job.
  • Shannon's vital organs are already beginning to heal.
  • When a procedure needs to be done to Shannon and we are completely at a loss as how to handle it, there is always someone we know that has experience with it and has helped us understand what to expect.
  • Shannon's Neurologist Dr Pitcher has been amazing with his constant care and taking extra time to explain things to us and help us through the scariness of the situation.
  • We constantly hear friends in the medical profession reiterate that Shannon is in the best hospital around with the best spine and neurological care. The reassurance is amazing for our souls. The hospitals in Iowa that Shannon went to first are all struggling just to communicate within their different departments as to whether or not Shannon had medical insurance and keep calling to get that information from me- another testament that we got her out of a bad situation and into one that is outstanding care.
