Sunday's are so fantastic! Shannon get's a break from all the crazy stuff they have her doing in therapies all week, and we get to talk to her a lot more. This Sunday was similar to other Sunday's we've had lately. It started with a text from Shannon (5:52am- so I got to sleep in a bit more) about flavored ice...not that hers was flavored, but the idea of it. She wasn't so sure it was going to be safe to eat after the weird comment her nurse gave her. "Regular ice?" What other ice do they have there?

She also told me that her nurse informed her that she shouldn't rub her eyes because she might get Covid19. Shannon's text said "yes, I can give it to myself in my little protected room surrounded by protected people.... She's the one who goes outside..."

We chatted while I made waffles this morning. My sweet friend Michelle gave us a phone holder to use while we talk to Shannon and have other things we need to do- like feed the savages living in my house. Krisha and I played "cooking show", which probably was more entertaining for us than for her. Shannon informed us that she had her favorite cereal for breakfast today- Rice Krispies. She was eating a banana while we talked, and made it look like the most delicious banana ever eaten.

I'm getting a lot better at lip reading- in case you were wondering. She hardly had to text me what she was saying :) We can also hear a little bit of voice sometimes when she is mouthing words. I know it won't be long before she finds her voice permanently.

Shannon joined us via FaceTime for church at home again. It's really nice to have her with us. She participates in the lesson, sharing her thoughts on things. I love that she is getting a weekly spiritual uplift.

The only therapy today was art therapy, and today Shannon painted a Hercules stencil. Hercules is definitely her favorite Disney movie!

The calendar is really helping a lot. Shannon is counting down (38 more days!) and knows what day of the week it is now. I can't imagine not having any kind of calendar while in isolation. Truly. They write the date on the board for her each day, but that doesn't give her any frame of reference. Plus, she gets her daily meme. And today's is this gem:

There was no official report on how Shannon is doing today, so all I have to go on is what she told me. The biggest news is that she ate an entire half PBJ sandwich- minus the crust. So that equals....a whole quarter?? She's working up to a bigger appetite since she doesn't have one almost at all.

We are still praying for Shannon's spinal cord to heal and allow her to be able to regain full use of her body, for her respiratory system to continue improving so she can breath without the trach and speak again, for her level of endurance to increase so she can do her therapies, and for her to continue to fight hard, be positive, and know that she is incredibly loved. Thank you for praying for her as well.

This past week Shannon really enjoyed the letters etc that she received, and we truly appreciate the thoughtfulness of those who sent her messages in whatever fashion you could. It give us so much more peace knowing that Shannon knows she is not forgotten by her friends, and that she is loved.

I have decided there is an endless supply of perfect quotes, compliments of Disney. This one is two-fold, fitting into Shannon's questionable ice experience, and every mom's day lately:

"Mom, are you sure this water's sanitary? It looks questionable to me!"
"It's fine, honey"
"{bleyuck} But what about bacteria?"
"Tantor, can't you see mummy's talking?"
"{gasp}Watch out! There's something swimming! It's coming right at you!
"Honey, mummy's losing her patience."
"this time I really see something!!"
"Ah boy"
"{gasp} Piranha!! It's a Piranha"
