In a little town in a far off land lived a tiny girl who happened to be a princess. She was well loved by all of her princess friends from neighboring kingdoms. They would gather for games and to frolic in the meadow together. But deep inside that tiny princess, was a small wild streak. The kind of wild streak that would send other princesses falling glass slippered heels over heads as they bounded upside down for doing such dastardly deeds as steeling imaginary cookies, or standing in a straight line that was begging to be toppled domino style. But somehow, that tiny princess grew into a beautiful young lady who changed her wild ways and became all things pleasant and good in the world.

Okay, story time is over.

Shannon used to love being all cutesy princess looking when she was a small fry. BUT. That wasn't cute, that was cool. She grew out of it. As you can see from this humble photo here. It was an HONOR to do her nails for her, again ;)
Just another family training day in paradise!! Rachael and I helped Shannon get herself all up for the day with only 5% help from the hospital staff. I'm pretty proud of the three of us. She might not be stuck in bed all day long when she gets home after all!
In PT today, we did (drum roll, please) TRANSFERS>>> WOOT! I know, so boring. We agree. But, now we have a handle on getting her from one place to another. So gold star for us! Shannon's neck is bothering her today, so I spent some time massaging it, and then they put heat on it. While Shannon was being lightly toasted, Rachael and I learned how to take apart both the loaner wheelchair and the one similar to what hers will be. Pretty important if we ever want to put them in the car to go anywhere.

In OT, we helped Shannon get into a belly laying position for sleeping. She can stay here for EIGHT hours straight! Shannon was testing the theory. And look, we obviously got her into the belly position, and no Shannon's were harmed in the making of this production.
We also looked at photos of pressure sores so we know what we are watching for. I high recommend AGAINST looking them up. Stop. Don't open that new tab, your eyeballs and unconscious memory are begging you to not google it. I promise you.

One of the best parts of today is THIS! Look at that wheelchair with it's pretty yellow ribbon. That ribbon lets everyone know that Shannon is within 7 days from departure!!!!! And.......the upside down green tag...that's her "get of of jail free" card. She is FREE to roam the entire hospital without a CHAPERONE. She calls it "without a grown-up".  Also, take a peak at my favorite of all of Shannon's scars. It's so amazing, but you only get to glimpse the top of it. It's the mark of  "I'm still here!! I'm a fighter! I beat the odds! I am so blessed!!"

We hung out on the roof for a while and then had Speech therapy there. It was so good to be outside, and we were able to work out a lot of plans for when Shannon is at home. Things to work on, questions we have, etc.

I still have a lot of little things I need to work through before I am willing to say I think I have a handle on Shannon coming home. Rachael and I have been talking through a lot of it, and have been doing our best to guess what we need to do and plan so we can make the transition flow well and have some sort of a plan for what the first several days home *should* look like. Being flexible is obviously key, and we are working on that too!

When we got home today, we found a painted bedroom, a finished shower pan, and the hall outside the bed and bath nearly painted. The floor leveling is being done as I type, and it looks like tile is starting tomorrow. That still leaves a lot to do, but we are plugging away and are hopeful that it will be done in time.

Thank you to all of you who continue to pray for Shannon, and for us! We are all still feeling the love and support. Shannon needs prayers for her neck pain to subside, for her blood pressure to continue to improve, and for her physical and mental endurance to stay strong.

Today's Meme:

Moana: Okay, First: I'm not a princess. I'm the daughter of the Chief.
Maui: Same difference.
Moana: Noooo....
Maui: If you wear a dress, and you have an animal sidekick; you're a princess!
